Best Construction Business Mentorship? What Reddit Actually Recommends

What Reddit threads actually say

In r/Contractor's thread on construction business coaches, someone asks about the Instagram names - Marshall Wilkinson, Felipe Freg and similar - and gets no vouches at all. The most useful reply reframes the question: stop asking if the coach is legit and ask what durable asset you own after paying. Two programs do get positive secondhand mentions there: Remodelers Advantage and Hammer & Grind. Notably, nobody in the thread says "I paid and it worked" about anyone.

In r/handyman's thread on The Contractor Fight, Tom Reber's program gets the closest thing to a Reddit endorsement this niche produces: the free YouTube content is called genuinely useful despite the shouty delivery, one member vouches for the paid tier, and another says he would only pay once his company is bigger. That pattern - free content first, defer the paid tier - is Reddit's entire mentorship philosophy in one thread.

And for the baseline mood, the 1,500-upvote r/Construction thread mocking a trades-business influencer: the top comments call him a scammer flat out, and the thread seethes at people who never worked a site harvesting a cut of those who do. Any mentorship pitch that cannot survive that room does not deserve your money.

The shortlist, as Reddit sees it

The Contractor Fight (Tom Reber)Warmest of any - free content praised, paid tier vouched oncePricing confidence, sales mindset for tradesDelivery style divides people; pay only after the free well runs dry
Remodelers AdvantagePositive secondhand mentionEstablished remodelers wanting peer groupsLittle firsthand Reddit evidence either way

Instagram scaling coachesAsked about, zero vouches-No verifiable operators found vouching in the threads
Contractor Club (us)No Reddit coverage - we checkedOperators wanting a room of peers running the sub-out modelPaid tier costs real money (~$5k-$8.5k) via an application call; free tier first

Yes, we put ourselves in the table with our real weaknesses showing. There are no Reddit reviews of Contractor Club - we covered that honestly in the Contractor Club Reddit review post - and our paid mentorship, The Construction Arbitrage Game, costs real money with an application-call entry, which deserves the same free-first scrutiny as everything else on this page - the full offer and prices are published on the mentorship page. Start with the free tier and the published method; pay only if they earn it.

The objections nobody addresses

"Every program's proof is a screenshot." Right - so ignore proof you cannot verify. UK operators leave a trail at Companies House; US contractors hold state licences you can look up. A mentor whose operating history cannot be independently checked is asking for faith, not fees.

"The peer group is the product, so quality depends on who else joined." True of every mastermind, including ours, and it is why application gates exist: sell seats to anyone with a card and the room fills with beginners, and then the room is worth nothing. We wrote more on this trade-off in is a construction mastermind worth it.

"$7,500-$20,000 programs exist because the price IS the marketing." The r/Entrepreneur high-ticket coaching thread documents the failure mode: clients at those prices left with nothing when the coach folded overnight and rebranded. High price does not signal high value in this market; it signals a sales team.

How to choose, in one pass

  1. 01Exhaust the free material first - the blog, the podcast, the YouTube. If the free tier teaches you nothing, stop there.
  2. 02Name the asset you are buying before you pay: a pricing system, a sales process, a peer group of verifiable operators. 'Accountability' and 'mindset' are not assets.
  3. 03Verify the mentor operates or operated a real business in your lane - filed accounts, real contracts, checkable scale.
  4. 04Reject guaranteed outcomes on sight, and read the refund terms as a sceptic.
  5. 05Prefer rooms over gurus: ten operators comparing real numbers beat one personality selling certainty.

Our free material is this blog and the full method on constructionarbitrage.com. If you are already operating and want the room, ask for the door.

Frequently asked questions

What construction mentorship programs does Reddit actually recommend?+

Very few, and mostly secondhand. In the threads we found: The Contractor Fight (Tom Reber) gets the most genuine goodwill, mainly for its free content; Remodelers Advantage and Hammer & Grind get positive passing mentions in r/Contractor. Instagram-famous 'scaling coaches' get asked about and receive no vouches.

Is construction business coaching worth paying for?+

Reddit's working rule: consume the free content first, and only pay when you can name the specific asset you will own afterwards - a pricing system, a sales process, a lead source. We wrote a full decision framework in our companion post on whether a construction business coach is worth it.

Why is Reddit so hostile to construction mentors?+

Because the trades attract influencer-sellers who never ran crews. A 1,500-upvote r/Construction thread mocking one such influencer captures the mood: people who never swung a hammer selling shortcuts to people who do. The hostility is a filter, and honest programs should welcome it.

Is Contractor Club a mentorship program?+

It has one. The free layer is this blog, the method on constructionarbitrage.com and a free community tier on Skool. The paid layer is The Construction Arbitrage Game - roughly $5,000 for 3 months or $8,500 for 6, with deposit and GBP options, entered via an application call. No guaranteed outcomes at any tier: if anyone ever promises you an income figure, walk, including from us.

How do I check whether a construction coach is legit?+

Search their name plus 'refund' and 'scam', ask for students you can verify independently, demand checkable operating history (UK: Companies House filings), and walk away from any guaranteed outcome. Details and sources are in the article above.
